Loading problems

Sorry if you are having problems using this site. I continue to make changes to the site in an attempt to debug it. Below I will run through a few likely problems--some of which can actually be resolved.

If you are using a slow internet connection then it may take you awhile to download some content. I have attempted to optimize content based on perceived uses and with the assumption that fast connections will eventually be commonplace and that content should be designed while thinking forward. This is most likely to affect your ability to download QuickTime Virtual Reality (QTVR) content and videos. I have tried to convert most videos using Vimeo which converts them into Flash videos that has compression optimal for viewing over the web. However, some videos compressed by Vimeo look lousy after compression. If this is the case then only the video with H264 compression (*.mp4) are provided which unfortunately load slower and displayer smaller.

Multimedia (QTVR and videos) require plug-ins to view (e.g. QuickTime video player or Flash to view Vimeo videos) which you may need to download and enable to view content. Also, I have a Flash animation incorporated into the main Home page. I noticed that I can view the Vimeo movies using Internet Explorer (IE) but not Firefox. Here is the suggested remedy.

You can uninstall Flash and then re-install it (you will also need to reinstall Flash on IE if you do this). To uninstall Flash see How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control

Then, using Firefox download the Flash player setup file from http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/
Close Firefox and then run the Flash setup file.

Since some problems are unique to specific operating system and browser combinations, you may want to open content in another browser to see if that improves the function and/or try updating the relevant plug-in. Some problems will be resolved simply by refreshing the page that you are viewing.
