back to Time-lapse content trout lily (Erythronium americanum)Trout lilies are one of the first wild flowers to bloom in the spring. The understory remains relatively well lit because the tree buds are just starting to break. Trout lilies are relatively widespread and can be found throughout most of the eastern United States. This sequence was made in Indiana. The flowers open and close daily for approximately 5 days. In some areas the lilies can almost carpet the forest floor. The bulbs and leaves of this plant can be eaten.
