Dynamic enviornment

Daily the enivorment is incredibly dynamic. We take for granted that the sun rises and sets causing the surface of earth to change temperature. Humidity changes as air temperature changes (i.e. the water holding capacity of the air increases with increasing temperature). So warmer air can hold more water. Water vapor helps moderate otherwise extreme temperature fluxes.

This picturesque time-lapse shows the sequence of events that unfolded over a period of 1 hour following sunrise. It reveals layered cloud movements helping to illustrate how portions of the atmosphere move separately. See how the lower clouds move in a different direction then the clouds higher in the sky. Severe weather often results when two air masses collide. Sometimes one air mass is pushed on top of the other. Filming clouds helps reveal their complex movements that are often too subtle to see.

alternate video format (H.264)

Clouds are great subjects for time-lapse projects. This sequence was shot over approximately 1 hour while taking 1 frame every 20 seconds using a Nikon Coolpix 5400 controlled by a Digisnap 2000.
